The New MexiChords Barbershop Chorus
(A banquet is held in January of each year to award the winners of each category for the previous year)
New MexiChords Annual Awards
Rookie of the Year Award - is awarded to the chorus member new to barbershopping, who has joined the New MexiChords in the past year and has embraced our hobby by becoming an active, contributing member of our chapter. Nominations by the board and selected by the Awards Committee.
Mr./Ms. Volunteer Award - is given to the chorus member who is always ready to help. Board members propose candidates and the winner is selected by the Awards Committee.
Most Improved Singer Award - is awarded to the chorus member who has improved the most, as selected by the Music Committee.
Mr./Ms. Performer Award - awarded to the chorus member who is our best performer. Selected by the Music Director and Assistant Music Director, the best performer will be selected using a combination of their abilities in singing, choreography and stage presence.
President’s Award - given by the Chapter President to the barbershopper deserving of special recognition for contributions made to the chapter. The Chapter President chooses the recipient.
Director’s Award - given and presented by the Chapter’s Director. The Director chooses the recipient.
Quartet of the Year Award - is given to the chapter quartet that has contributed the most to the chapter over the past year, to include singing on shows, Valentines, and participation at chapter meetings. Nominations by the board and selected by the awards committee.
Mr./Ms. New MexiChord - the award is given to the barbershopper who best exemplifies what it means to be a New MexiChord. It takes into account all aspects of our hobby, including the social aspects. The chorus member is a “Hail fellow, well met” kind of person who does more to foster good morale among the membership than anyone else. He/she is a pleasant kind of person who makes you feel like you are his/her best friend. The nominee is involved in the chapter, always contributing to its well being. Nominations for this award are made by the chapter membership. Each chapter member will have the opportunity to nominate one chapter member for this award. The awards committee will compile the results and select the recipient.

Any award may not be given out each year if it is believed no one has risen to the ideals embodied by that particular award. These awards focus on what our chapter wants to foster: good singing, volunteering, good fellowship, and good performances. In a chapter that wants to be the best, these awards should become as highly prized as the Barbershopper of the Year Award.
The Awards Committee is comprised of the President, Music VP and Program VP.
