The New MexiChords
Welcome!
The New MexiChords welcomes you to our website. We invite you to find out how YOU can become involved in one of the most fun and satisfying hobbies around.
Everyone is welcome to come sing with us on any Tuesday night throughout the year (except those that fall on holidays). We meet at St. John's United Methodist Church, located at 2626 Arizona St NE (one block North of Menaul & one block East of San Pedro) Abuquerque, NM 87110.
If you love to sing and can carry a tune, come to a rehearsal with us. You don't even need to read music ... we can help with that. Join us at 6:30 p.m. on any Tuesday night. If you get there a few minutes early, we can introduce you to members of the chapter, find you a seat, and provide you a guest book of the music we're singing.
Park in the lot on the west side of the church and enter the doors at the north side of that lot (see red arrows in the photo below).
About the New MexiChords:
Originally known as the "Albuquerque Chorus", then the "Duke City Chorus", it was chartered in 1952 as a chapter of what was then known as The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc. (later changed to the Barbershop Harmony Society). In 1960, the name was changed to "The New MexiChords" and the Chapater subsequently joined the Rocky Mountain District of the national organization.
Over the years, the New MexiChords have won several District Chorus and Quartet Championships and performed in numerous shows and events. The New MexiChords is a four-part a cappella chorus known for its close harmonies, commitment to musical excellence, and enjoyable entertainment. We are proud to perform and preserve the unique sound of "barbershop" harmony.
How You Can Contribute:
In addition to bringing your voice to the stage in beautiful harmony or entertaining yourself and others as a member of a quartet, we appreciate financial support. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, The New MexiChords is self-sustaining through gifts, performance fees, admissions to shows, dues, and sales of merchandise. Feel free to join the Chorus and/or support our efforts to preserve and promote this musical art form.
